Part #4

Okay here he go again. He’s finally inducted. He’s a part of the firm. He is officially an employee now. Does that sound cool or does that make a difference to him? Well read on …

There was kind of presentations and seminars for the first three days of his induction program. The first day was like “WOW I am in the company now” for him. The first person showed up welcoming him and the others to the company. The firm is that, the firm is this. All big talk. The truth is no one has ever heard of the company before. May be everyone else in the world is ignorant and dumb.

The firm is growing, ‘ya he knows that’, said the speaker, it’s gowing at a pace that it will overtake the bigger names in the field , ‘give me a break’.

“Any questions?” asked the speaker from the human resources department.

One guy among them was bold enough to ask the question that was troubling everyone for the past three months. Everyone has the question in their minds. Losing sleep over it. It was the topic in almost all discussions in the circle.
He asked “ what about our compensation? “.

The sweet talk, the hi-fi all ended at that moment. The real face of the HR showed up.

“Did you get the offer?” asked the speaker.
“Negative” said the poor colleague.
“Then why should you be worried about the compensation when you aint even know the real figure?” exclaimed the speaker.
“It’s was a rumor spreading” explained his friend.
“If there exists something like that, like the difference in the compensation, like you said, there might be logic behind it. The corporate world doesn’t do anything without logic” said the HR side.
Logic? Sure does it has. What? That’s what the whole story is going to find out !

The day went by without much things to talk about, expect for the pages of documents that needed to be signed. He tried reading the documents, ohh no it’s real real long with all the bullshit language. It’s like an encrypted document. One might need a dictionary to decode it.

“Why the hell can’t they use some language humans can understand. There are hidden meanings to the words spoken in the documents” he thought.

The second day went almost unnoticed. There was just people coming in one after the other. Talks and talks endlessly for hours. He didn’t pay attention to most of them.

The third day was almost similar to the first one expect for some group activities. Or was it in the second day. He quite lost track of time. After all too much bullshit will cause the degradation of any brilliant’s mind.

Now that the fourth day has come. He sees his and the others names spread all over the place. “Welcome” it all said.

To find the real meaning behind the word “welcome” he has to survive a little longer. Lets wait for the day !.........................................................................................................

Part #3

That’s all kept aside, he decided to live and face it as life brings it to his door step. Whatever it is he thought, he’ll face it face on. But the determination alone wouldn’t help him in anyway. He needed to be independent, to live without the support from his dad. That’s what he really wants.

Now that the one is out of question, he decided on viewing life from a different angle. It was like the dude stuff, keeping his cool or being cool. The writings on his T-shirt told how he felt about others and this world.

#1 ‘ If I give a shit you’ll be the first one I give it too’
#2 ‘ Don’t’ follow me I am lost too.’
#3 ‘Nobody is perfect. I am nobody’.

And so much more. But it all doesn’t change the situation he is in, in any sense. He always wishe he could wear a T-shirt saying “kiss my ass” to work. That’s the message he want his boss to hear.

Discrimination, no money, no work. “Okay that’s it’ I quit” those are the lovely words he want to say. But where?

Alas the time has come for him to join the place officially. New rumors spread across the tables and the filthy computer systems. The pay will be credited only when they think it’s the suitable time to do so.

The seniors there say the same story. It happened to them to. Late pay is the way here.

Alright enough is enough!!! The place boasts about standards and policies, employee friendliness and prosperity, growth and good environment. Where is it all?

The saying “don’t judge the book by it’s cover“ has come true in this case. Whatever he haeard from the outside is not true or not even close to it.

His dreams shattered. He still goes there.

New rumor? He got to leave the place he currently occupies, because new trainees have been allotted the place.

Now that he has lost everything, not a place to sit, the people at top doesn’t even know he exists, he still works there.

Does he exist? Is someone like this in our midst? Is this a desperate software engineer? Is he really desperate? What is he desperate for?

The questions are all pending, the answers uncertain as the HR in the place where he works.

To be continued…. Part #4 ( if he exists )

Part #2

Salary or no salary at least he will get the experience, he thought. But wait a minute. He’ll be joining only after 3 months, so getting experience is out of question. Okay, but at least he is getting paid one third of the promised salary every month during the training. But that too not in liquid cash, it’s still remains as the words and promises poured out from the HR department.
So the net result and conclusion? No money and no experience. (the company doesn’t even have records that he is under going training) But one thing kept him going, it’s not all about money. Life is much more than the money.

But Jesus answered him, `The holy writings say, "Man cannot live on bread only. He needs to live by every word that God says." Matthew 4:4

This kept him going. It’s not money alone that matters. But wait a minute, it’s been 2 months since he got this job, there are expectations from his side, his family, his friends and everyone else he knows on this damn planet. Man, will anyone ever believe that he is in a job with no pay. May be they will if he were in China where bonded and cheap labor ( very cheap that the workers don’t kept paid always) exists.

But he always thought that slavery was abolished long back, that was what he learned in the history lessons back in school. This is not slavery he thought, maybe it’s voluntary work. Like what they do in the UNHCR or the UNICEF or Green Peace. It was better if he was there, then he could sleep every night with the thought running through his mind “ Oof I did something good today”.

Goddamnit he aint even have that too.

Back to the story.( or is there a story?). Anyways he kept coming for the training everyday, not even missing a day, and that too on time. May be he can bring about a change.

The time was moving on. The rumors? Still spreading like wild fire. The new one? His colleagues are getting paid more than what he is getting ( or going to get in near future which in turn is still in doubt due to contradictory statements issued by the people responsible and the ones who decide on the compensations).

This pissed him off. What the heck he thought, what is the difference between them and himself. Both were entry level employees, under going the same training, to be ( maybe) posted in a position termed as software engineer trainee. So where do you find the difference? It doesn’t take a genius to find what the difference is. It’s the college. Or it all depends on how many people you know in the top positions.

But he thought recommendations and biases existed in government companies. He talked sarcastically of government jobs. He hated job security. He thought it ruined the chances of people getting jobs. Recommendations and biases in a private limited company?. Give me a break!!!

But the truth is, as always, harsh. It was true. There existed discriminations ( but that was abolished long back right? Or it was not? ) in the company.

The best thing there is that everyone is in a verge of uncertainty and ambiguity. The policies there are bullshit.

He thought discriminating was against the law in this country, but there it was company policy.

To be continued…..Part #3

Part #1

Okay he is a software engineer. Now it’s the peak time here for software engineers. He got a job like all other engineering graduates. It’s a huge company, multinational, with clients in the fortune 500, they said..

This is the story of a desperate software engineer.

His training started with 40 others at the training place. The company has outsourced the training centre to another place, away from the work place the employees of the company enjoy. It all started fine. It was the professionalism that he liked the most. The dress code the work time, the training, all were up to the standards, what anyone can expect from an MNC. The perks and the salary they offered were quite attractive.

The first month went unnoticed, full of work and promises. He quite liked it all. The coworkers or the colleagues were friendly. It was heaven. It was all he ever wanted. It was all he dreamed of. A good way to start his career, he thought.

The time told another story.

The second month was up and running. The time was moving at a fast pace. He was counting the days the training will be completed ( 3 month training) and officially he’ll be start working. That’s when the rumor started spreading, ‘ the salary is increased by 40 %’. Okay that was cool, that was what he expected from a MNC like this.

But wait, it was just a rumor. Okay he said to himself, the old salary is not that bad after all. This was when he got the opportunity to get trained in a new technology. Gracefully happily he accepted the offer, after all it’s a big company, it’ll take care of it’s employees career prospective, it will give them the opportunity to grow, to learn, to flourish, that’s what he thought.
